fruits and vegetables assorted to look like bearded man

Looking to buy beard growth vitamins? Great, you landed on the right article. You will learn everything you need to know about this popular beard growth product right here.

We have reviewed the best brands for this purpose, with both generic multivitamins in the mix and some that are specially labeled as “beard vitamins”.

When I say special beard vitamins, I’m talking about the popular ones such as…

  • Beardilizer
  • Vitabeard
  • Beard Grow XL
  • Beard Czar

What’s the difference you ask?

Usually nothing, just the label is different and those that say “beard” in it tend to be much more expensive.

Here’s a handy image to explain what I mean by that:

beard vitamin vs regular multivitamin
One common misconception is that beard growth vitamins would somehow be superior to normal multivitamins, but based on our research, the ingredient lists are usually superior in the generic multivitamins, and the ingredient quality tends to be higher. The only big difference between a beard vitamin and generic vitamin supplement is, therefore, the word “beard” in the bottle and maybe a fancy beard logo. Should you pay extra for that? We think you shouldn’t.

These special beard growth vitamins tend to come from the same manufacturers who make beard growth oil as well (and we all know how ineffective those are).

Aside from ranking the best vitamins for beard, we have also included a list of each vitamin and their effects on facial hair growth.

So you know exactly how they work and if they work at all.

It’s also imperative that you understand this:

No vitamin or mineral in itself will grow you a beard from scratch – you need something more powerful, like minoxidil for that to occur.

Micronutrients, aka. vitamins and minerals are still helpful in maximizing your own beard growth potential, but they are not a magic-pill solution at all.

We have also published a big review of the best beard supplements before, which you can find by clicking that link.

Do Beard Growth Vitamins Work?

vitamins and minerals

Using vitamin and mineral supplements – which are sometimes labeled as beard vitamins – is a great way to ensure that you are not deficient in any key nutrients that aid the growth of facial hair.

In that sense, they can certainly help you grow a beard faster and thicker, especially if your diet is not very nutrient dense.

Will beard vitamins help you sprout new beard hairs?

No, that’s extremely unlikely, and could only happen if you use them to fix a serious deficiency in something vital to the facial hair like biotin or zinc.

You also need to understand that beard growth is regulated by the male hormones testosterone and DHT, and many vitamins and minerals directly impact your levels of those hormones.

Let’s say you’re deficient in vitamin D, zinc, or magnesium for example;

This would lead to suppressed production of both testosterone and DHT, and inevitably also result in weaker beard growth…

If you then would fix those deficiencies with a generic multivitamin or a beard growth vitamin, then your hormone levels would shoot back up and that would inevitably improve your beard growth as well.

So in a nutshell, the benefits of beard growth vitamins are most commonly seen in people who are deficient in vitamins and minerals in the first place.

And the only way vitamins can help your beard growth is through fixing nutritional gaps and by increasing the levels of the key beard growth hormones.

Since you can get all the vitamins and minerals you need from food sources, you don’t necessarily need to use a multivitamin at all if you eat a wholesome nutritious diet – Our list of best beard foods would be a good place to start.

NOTE: Rarely, if ever, does it help to consume more vitamins than is recommended by the RDA. So don’t go around thinking that you need to mega-dose anything for better results.

The Key Vitamins for Beard Growth

Some vitamins are more important than others when it comes to facial hair health and growth, but they all do serve a purpose in a way or another.

Here’s a quick list of the most beneficial…

Fat-Soluble Vitamins (A, D, K2, E)

eggs on a table

The fat-soluble vitamins are particularly important for facial hair growth, as many of them are required to maintain natural hormone production and the sebum oil production at the beard follicles.

Take vitamin A for example, which is a key co-factor in sebum oil production and deficiency has been known to suppress testosterone levels.

Research suggests that increasing your intake of vitamin D to ~3000IU per day can boost testosterone levels by 25% and some evidence shows that vitamin D is important for the maturation of the beard hairs from thin vellus into thick terminal hair.

Vitamin K2 can promote facial hair health through its effect in increasing testosterone levels.

And lastly, vitamin E is a powerful antioxidant which has also been shown to raise the levels of beard hormones, which is exactly why you want to see it listed as an ingredient in your beard growth vitamin bottle.

You may also add vitamin E oil to your DIY beard oil blends, as it can protect the volatile oils from lipid-peroxidation (going rancid).

Good food sources for fat-soluble vitamins include liver, eggs, dark leafy greens, avocado, dairy products, and fermented foods.

Water-soluble Vitamins (B-complex, C)

smoothies, fruits, and berries

Of all the possible vitamins you could use to improve your beard health, biotin gets the most praise. It’s certainly an important one, but rarely necessary unless there’s a deficiency.

Almost all of the B-vitamins and vitamin C play a role in beard growth, but at the same time, it’s rare that you would be deficient in them.

Which means that extra supplementation probably doesn’t do a thing.

In fact, if you take excessive amounts of these water-soluble vitamins, you will be pissing away (literally) all of it that your body doesn’t need.

Good food sources for water-soluble vitamins include citrus fruits, liver, pineapple, eggs, dark leafy greens, and whole grains.

Minerals (Zinc, Magnesium, Calcium, etc)

oysters are a rich source of minerals

There are many different minerals and trace-minerals that impact your beard growth rate, and many do so by affecting your day-to-day hormone levels.

Zinc, for example, is very important for the beard hormone; testosterone, and a deficiency has been shown to inhibit both the growth of beard and your hormone levels.

Same goes for Magnesium (ref). Selenium (ref). and Calcium (ref).

Copper may not be that important for growth, but there’s some evidence that it’s needed to maintain a healthy pigment in the beard hairs, and may even prevent premature graying.

One trace-mineral that is not so well-known, but hugely important for facial hair, is called boron. In one study, 10mg’s of boron led to a nice increase in DHT levels (which is great because DHT helps with linear beard growth).

You can get most of these minerals by eating foods like oysters, raisins, dark chocolate, Brazil nuts, milk, cheese, etc.

Best Beard Growth Vitamins of 2024

1. Best Beard Vitamin: Thorne 2 / Day

thorne multivitaminIf you’re looking to get the highest-quality ingredients possible, then Thorne Research is the go-to manufacturer.

While this product does not say “beard” anywhere in the bottle, it doesn’t mean it wouldn’t work for facial hair.

In fact, if you compare this multi to any of the popular beard growth vitamins and supplements out there, the ingredient list here wins them easily.

The only downfall is that this ain’t the cheapest vitamin to get, but on the flip-side, at least you’re getting the best possible micronutrients money can buy.

Key Specs and Details

  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Capsules: 60
  • Vitamins: 13
  • Minerals: 10
  • Lasts for: 30 Days
  • Formulated for Beards: No
  • Proprietary blends: No

Pros:

  • High-quality ingredients produced in a state-of-the-art facility
  • Contains nearly all the beard vitamins you need for growth
  • Doesn’t hide behind proprietary blends.

Cons:

  • A bit expensive for a multivitamin supplement.
  • Not specifically formulate for beards (not that it means a thing).

Where to Buy it: You can find this “beard vitamin” from Amazon.

Bottom line: It’s unlikely that you can find a vitamin supplement with better ingredients than listed here. If you value quality and have the budget, this should be your #1 choice.

2. Pure Encapsulations O.N.E Multivitamin

pure encapsulations vitamin supplementPure Encapsulations prides itself as a company that uses no fillers, no binders, silicates, or any other additives in their products.

Their O.N.E multivitamin is a bit expensive.

But at the same time, it’s sourced from incredibly high-quality ingredients and is 100% pure and hypoallergenic.

One bottle of it costs upwards of sixty bucks, but it’s important to note that it does come with 120 capsules, and the serving size is 1 capsule per day.

This means that if you use it as a dedicated beard growth multivitamin, one bottle will last for roughly 4 months.

As far as ingredients go, this one has all the vitamins and minerals your beads needs to grow strong and healthy, without saying “beard” on its label.

Key Specs and Details

  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Capsules: 120
  • Vitamins: 13
  • Minerals: 8
  • Lasts for: 4 Months
  • Formulated for Beards: No
  • Proprietary blends: No

Pros:

  • No binders, fillers, or additives. Hypoallergenic ingredients.
  • Has all the necessary facial hair vitamins in the formulation.
  • One bottle lasts for a good while when used as instructed.

Cons:

  • The amount of D vitamin could be a bit higher.
  • Not formulated for beard use so many beardsmen may miss it.

Where to Buy it: The Pure Encapsulations multivitamin can be bought from Amazon.

Bottom line: This is the cleanest vitamin and mineral supplement you can use to promote your beards health and growth rate. Although it doesn’t say anything about facial hair in the label, it still has all the micronutrients a healthy beard needs.

3. Amazon Solimo Men’s Generic Vitamin

amazon solimo multivitaminSolimo is a generic low-budget brand from Amazon.

Their Men’s One Daily Multivitamin can be used as a beard vitamin for those who want the cheapest possible solution.

One bottle comes with 100 tablets, and since you take it once per day, the cost per tablet is as low as $0,08.

This is amazing, considering that dedicated facial hair supplements like Vitabeard or Beardilizer usually have ingredient lists pretty much identical to this one, but with a cost per capsule that is somewhere around $1 per capsule.

Choosing a dedicated beard vitamin would mean that you pay about 10x more just to have the word “beard” on the label. (with literally the same ingredients inside).

Key Specs and Details

  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Capsules: 60
  • Vitamins: 13
  • Minerals: 7
  • Lasts for: 100 Days
  • Formulated for Beards: No
  • Proprietary blends: No

Pros:

  • Extremely cheap and works well for tight budgets.
  • Contains the most important vitamins and minerals.
  • No proprietary blends, all ingredients clearly visible.

Cons:

  • Not the highest-quality ingredients, as to be expected.
  • Could be called a “basic kitchen-sink multivitamin”

Where to Buy it: Amazon’s own brand can, of course, be found from Amazon.

Bottom line: If you want the cheapest beard vitamin possible, look no further. With just $0.08 per tablet, this price is hard to beat and the ingredients are decently good.

4. Vitabeard Beard Growth Vitamin

vitabeard beard growth vitaminOkay, so we finally got to the first beard supplement here that actually says “beard” in it.

It’s the VitaBeard facial hair support formula from Do Vitamins brand.

Is it any good you ask?

Not really, it’s decent but grossly over-priced.

Even though it’s specifically formulated for facial hair use, there isn’t really anything in it that would make it different from a generic multivitamin.

My biggest pet-peevee with special vitamins for beard growth like this is that they are pricey at ~1 dollar per daily serving. They also claim things like “prevents beard itch” which is hardly true.

Key Specs and Details

  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Capsules: 90
  • Vitamins: 12
  • Minerals: 3
  • Lasts for: 30 Days
  • Formulated for Beards: Yes
  • Proprietary blends: Yes

Pros:

  • Formulated specifically for beards, so has MSM, silica, etc.
  • Ingredients are third-party tested and safe.
  • Manufactured in USA.

Cons:

  • Very expensive considering its low-quality ingredients.
  • Only has three minerals (zinc, copper, iodine).
  • All the ingredients have low bio-availability and are cheaply sourced.

Where to Buy it: The Vitabeard facial hair growth formula is sold on Amazon.Com

Bottom line: Even though Vitabeard is one of the best-sellig beard growth supplements available, it doesn’t mean it would be good. It’s just one of the few to market the product for beard use which has made it popular mostly among bearded men who don’t really understand what they’re buying.

5. Hairfluence Hair Growth Vitamins

hairfluence hair follicle supplementThe Hairfluence hair growth vitamin blend from ZHOU is decently good for beard enhancement.

It’s not intended for that though, as you can see, it’s more catered towards selling to women as a scalp-hair growth booster.

Nonetheless, the ingredients should work for beards as well.

The ingredients can be best described as “low-dose multivitamin with a lot of biotin (5000mcg) and some extra “hair health” ingredients like MSM, horsetail extract, collagen hydrolysate, and keratin.

Key Specs and Details

  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Capsules: 60
  • Vitamins: 11
  • Minerals: 1
  • Lasts for: 30 Days
  • Formulated for Beards: No
  • Proprietary blends: No

Pros:

  • Has some extra stuff that might help the beard.
  • A high amount of biotin if that’s what you’re looking for.

Cons:

  • Not very high-quality ingredients.
  • Contains just 1 mineral (calcium).

Where to Buy it: Get the Hairfluence from Amazon.

Bottom line: If you’re looking for a pretty basic vitamin supplement with high-dose biotin and some other ingredients like MSM and keratin, then this should be a decent choice.

6. Beardilizer Beard Vitamins

beardilizerBeardilizer is another best-selling beard pill.

It’s similar – almost identical – to Vitabeard, and much like it also expensive and poorly formulated.

Regardless, there aren’t many dedicated beard growth formulas sold online so they can get away with a weaker blend of ingredients.

Would we recommend it?

Not really.

I mean yes it’s probably better than not getting any vitamins and minerals at all, but at the same time you would be much better of buying something that has higher quality ingredients (like the Thorne 2 / Day for example) or something that has similar ingredients for 10x lower price (like the Amazon Solimo Multivitamin).

One thing I do have to give Beardilizer a lot of credit for is their marketing game.

Just look at this music video parody they made:

As with most facial hair supplements, the only thing you’re really paying for here is the weird headphones and beard logo, and the “beard” text in the name.

Key Specs and Details

  • Manufactured in: USA
  • Capsules: 90
  • Vitamins: 12
  • Minerals: 2
  • Lasts for: 30 Days
  • Formulated for Beards: Yes
  • Proprietary blends: Sort of

Pros:

  • Has some decent extra ingredients like MSM and horsetail extract.
  • Formulated and made in the USA.

Cons:

  • Low-quality ingredients sourced as cheaply as possible.
  • Even though it has 90 capsules, you take 3 per day.
  • Surprisingly, they are not disclosing the dosage of ingredients.

Where to Buy it: Beardilizer is sold at Amazon.Com

Bottom line: Making claims like “promotes beard growth” and “reduces beard itch and beardruff” is really sketchy with ingredients like this. And what is up with not disclosing the exact dosages? That’s unheard of with most vitamin supplements.

Conclusion

Beard growth vitamins can help fix some gaps in your nutrition and potentially maximize your natural ability to grow a beard.

However, they are not magic-pills and most of the time you can get better value through buying generic multivitamin supplements instead

In fact, generic multivitamins tend to have a better list of ingredients (which works just as well for facial hair growth and health) but come with a 10x smaller price tag.
